Bureau-de-change operators attacked

~ Robbers, numbering about 12, invade Lagos, robbed various bureau de change operators and kill 3 policemen

Armed robbers, numbering about 12, robbed in different parts of Lagos State on Sunday killing three policemen and a commercial bus driver.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the hoodlums attacked various bureau de change operators in the respective areas, robbed motorists and shot policemen.

Places where the gang robbed between 1pm and 3pm – were Agege, Anthony, Ojodu, Itire, Ikeja and Ilasamaja areas of the state.

Faces on N5000 note

~ Deputy Governor (Operations) of the CBN, says bank customers can reject N5000 note.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has said that it will be  illegal for banks to compel their customers to accept the  N5000 note when it comes into existence..

The apex bank, which denied allegations that it was forcing the new structure of the naira on Nigerians, said customers could reject N5000 note from banks

“I say this with all sense of responsibility as the deputy governor of the central bank that we shall ensure that no bank imposes N5000 on anybody who does not want it. You can go to your bank and say you don’t need N5000 note,” Deputy Governor (Operations) of the CBN, Mr. Tunde Lemo, said in a Channels Television interview programme on Saturday.

Nigeria’s 1st lady – Patience Goodluck

1st Lady Patience Goodluck to return from Germany before September ending.

Patience Jonathan is expected back in the country before the end of September ahead of Nigeria’s 52nd Independence anniversary.

Patience is said to be hospitalised at the Horst Schmidt Klinik in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Globacom Boss – Mike Adenuga

~ Globacom Limited Chairman , Mike Adenuga, 148 others to get national honours.

Globacom Limited Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga, has joined the President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, among personalities to be conferred with the award of Grand Commander of the Niger.

GCON is usually bestowed on the country’s Vice-President.

But last year, Dangote made history when he was conferred with the award.

Air Nigeria may merge with Aero Contractors

~ Air Nigeria closes and plans to re-emerge with Aero Contractors merger.

With the closure of its operations today following the sack of about 50 workers last week, Air Nigeria will now join the many Nigerian airlines that operated for a brief period before going under.

But the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) may give the dying airline a new lease of life as THISDAY has learnt that the corporation is considering a merger of the airline with Aero Contractors to create a bigger airline with enough aircraft and domestic, regional and international routes, to give Arik Air a run for its money.
