Doyin Okupe is a senior special assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs. He was appointed, my guess, because of his assumed impeccable records in public, private and political life.
It therefore saddens me to see an eminent publics figure such as Doyin Okupe allow his reputation to be shred to tatters in such a way his twitter account is being run.
You need to check out the tweets uploaded from this account to understand how I feel.
An attack on Oby ezekwesili, , one of the most vocal leaders of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign is not enough to warrant this post, however, the quality of his tweets, re-tweets and replies coming from a Senior Special Assistant to a President on Public Affairs are damning and right down insulting and deserves pondering.
A major problem with so called influential people in Nigeria is the belief they can do and get away with anything (this is no typo). How else would a man that holds such a public position allow his reputation to be maligned in such a manner without any care in the world. Because he knows he can get away with it. Reputation means nothing when it comes to politics in Nigeria.
Mr Okupe thought it was deserving of his position to have a twitter account, which is a right he shouldn’t be denied. However, he would have thought better of it to have asked of the impact it would have on his credibility, especially when thoughts expressed a times make him appear like a nincompoop.
Right now, Mr Okupe, as I write, no serious minded person should take you seriously, and rightfully so. This is not to say your reputation can’t be rescued, of course it can. But not until you DISMISS, with immediate effect your twitter handler. That person has fantastically let you down to be honest. I don’t know what mission this person is on. Its worth terminating right now.
There is nothing extra-ordinary in having a twitter handler. However, I can liken choosing one to hiring a driver.
For crying out loud Mr Okupe, no matter how influential you may be, you would still care to find out how good a DRIVER hired to drive you really is. Even if requires to have a 60-second-chat.
You know the consequences of hiring a bad driver. It is the same attitude every right thinking person ought to adopt in selecting the right person that will handle a twitter account.
Right now, you have chosen a damn right careless and dangerous ‘driver’.
Your twitter handler, ‘driver’ has further buttressed my point about those assistants Mr President surrounds himself with. They have been his major undoing.
Chief, if this post ever gets before you sir, my tip would be to get rid of that ‘driver’ of yours before he carelessly further drives your reputation into oblivion.
And by the way, until your account is verified, I shall not change my opinion that is fake. This is me giving you the benefit of doubt that as a person, you wouldn’t have stooped this low with those thoughts expressed from your twitter account, that now unfortunately bear your names. Names you have worked so hard to protect and project.
