Stevie Wonder will provide the soundtrack to summer with the theme tune for the BBC’s World Cup television coverage, London Evening Standard reports.

No football fan will be able to escape the song — Another Star — which will be played countless times as the BBC kicks off its World Cup campaign next week.

The BBC said it was the first time that Wonder, 64, “had given his approval for one of his songs to be used in this way”. The song, which will be played each morning, afternoon and evening across the network throughout the four-week tournament, was chosen because the BBC felt its rhythmic beats would fit perfectly with the party atmosphere from Latin America.

Another Star is from the album Songs In The Key Of Life, released during  Britain’s sweltering summer of 1976, which won four Grammy awards including Album of the Year. The track is likely to top the charts once the World Cup begins.

Wonder is also due to release two new albums this year and play a concert at Clapham Common at the end of the month. A BBC spokeswoman said: “The song, with its infectious Latin American vibe, will be used as the opening sequence for all of the BBC’s World Cup programming, starting with the preview show on June 11 on BBC One.”

Yeaaaaa, this song is guaranteed to put you in the world cup spirit.
