In Kano for the official turbanning of HRH Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the 14th emir of Kano.

Right now, we are in Gov Kwankwaso’s office awaiting the commencement of the coronation ceremonies. The Emir is being dressed up for the occasion in the Kano State Government House. Ceremonies will start in Arewa Hall in the next hour by God’s Grace. – Nasir El-Rufai

UPDATE FROM THE KANO GOVERNMENT HOUSE: Gov. Kwankwaso and his cabinet are now seated in Africa Hall of the the Kano Government House.

The kingmakers are also seated. All the requirements for coronation are in place but the Jonathanians are yet to give up!

The AIG of Police in charge of Kano has taken over the Palace and refused the movement of the royal regalia for the coronation to Government House on orders from the Villa.

The ceremonies will commence as soon as the Emir makes his entrance.

12:41 – The Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has entered the hall and seated. The formal coronation ceremonies are about to begin. Alhamdulillah

UPDATE FROM KANO GOVERNMENT HOUSE: Walin Kano Mahe Wali gave the opening prayers.

The Madaki of Kano that is responsible for the formal turbanning is speaking now.

The Governor will then give his opening speech in Hausa in accordance with a 200 plus year tradition.

The Emir’s Palace is still completely surrounded by the Police that are refusing all entrance or exit. It appears that Federal coercive power is being deployed to interfere with a 200 year tradition….sad…..
