PLAYER RATING: Nigeria Vs Argentina

Ahmed Musa

Ahmed Musa

8 Ahmed Musa –  The two goals scored by Musa will ensure his cult hero status. With each game he has shown his determination to prove his inclusion. His goals were well-taken. His pace and energy proved a constant threat to the Argies. One of his best games for Nigeria.

7 Peter Odemwingie –  His speed and energy were still there for all to see, but he had a better game against Bosnia. His intelligent play and experience still came in handy when it mattered. He was determined to show ‘Big Boss” he is grateful for his inclusion. He will always be loved by Nigerians for his winning mentality.

7 Ogenyi Onazi –  He worked tirelessly for his team and his duels with Javier Mascherano were a delight to watch. He was instructed to obstruct the mesmerising Messi, I bet he did his best but it just wasn’t good quiet good enough.

7 Emmanuel Emenike – He was full of attacking moves and his force and energy troubled the Argentina defence, as Rojo and Gago were kept on their feet.

8 Vincent Enyeama – This is a keeper that the world would long remember for been one of the best from the continent. He was the busier of the two goalkeepers and pulled off a number of saves to keep Argentina at bay. Lionel Messi’s first goal was quite unstoppable, but he is to blame for the second goal from the free kick, having poorly positioned himself. His status as one of the best in the game is still intact, despite conceding three goals.

7 Joseph Yobo – He may have won his coveted 100th cap for the Super Eagles, though he had some nervy moments. He was able to hold his own and played with confidence. The bigger the game, the old quality hobo comes to play.

7 Kenneth Omeruo –  This young head, a  Chelsea player on loan was as tough and decisive in his tackles as you would see any experienced world class defender play. He won possession back for his team in key areas. His partnership with Yobo was above average.

6 Efe Ambrose Ambrose  – Early on in the game, he had a torrid ride from the Argentine quartet of Messi, Aguero, Higuain and particularly Di Maria, who operated through his flank and it was tough to quell the threat they posed. He was made to really work hard and could have got the equaliser for Nigeria but his effort was deflected to hit the side of the net.

6 Juwon Oshaniwa –  Had a solid game like in the previous matches with Iran and Bosnia. He was consistent in his passing.

4 John Obi Mikel – A TOTAL COMPLETE DISAPPOINTMENT to his team mates and Nigeria as a whole. He disappeared for most part of the game. he was the reason Messi had a free kick taken because of his sloppiness. He needs to be replaced or not selected to start a game to send a message

6 Michel Babatunde –  Was replaced after injuring his wrist, but he did well before then.

Substitutes

3 Uche Nwofor –  Made little impact when he was called on to replace Odemwingie.

2 Michael Uchebo – The Flavour Nabania’s lookalike did more of dancing than playing, as he was all over the place with little effect when he came on for the injured Babatunde
