West Brom have splashed out a club record £9m on Nigeria international striker Brown Ideye.

The forward has left Dynamo Kiev to sign a three-year deal at the Hawthorns and is the Baggies’ fifth summer signing following the arrivals of Chris Baird, Craig Gardner, Joleon Lescott and Sebastien Pocognoli reports Talksport.

Ideye will wear the No.9 shirt at Albion and new manager Alan Irvine was delighted to capture the 25-year-old, who scored 34 goals in 74 games at Kiev.

“Brown is a quality striker and I’m looking forward to working with him,” the Baggies boss said.

“He’s a strong, quick, powerful player who likes to get in behind defences and has plenty of Champions League and international experience.”

Technical director Terry Burton added: “When I arrived at Albion the recruitment department flagged Brown up as the man at the top of their wish list.

“It is a fantastic signing because of the quality and the potential of the player. I can see that he really wants to be here and that he really wants to be playing in the Premier League.

“He’s a dynamic player who likes to get in behind defenders and he has the pace to do so.

The Super Eagles striker has scored five times for his country in 24 appearances, however he was overlooked for Stephen Keshi’s World Cup squad in Brazil.

Ideye’s arrival will go some way towards compensating for the loss of Shane Long to Hull in January and Nicolas Anelka’s departure in March after the ‘quenelle’ celebration controversy.
