Nigerians on the social media platform, Facebook have turned the unfortunate death of Hamza El-Rufai into a religious, ethnic as well as political forum. As at posting this story, his FB post announcing the untimely death of his son in a car crash had generated 10,473 likes and 1,229 comments. It’s unfortunate though that this difficult period for El-Rufai’s family had been turned into a fiasco on social media.
The big question is should El-Rufai (pictured above) had broken the story on Facebook?
Personally, I see no reason why he shouldn’t. if that is how he is able to mourn, so be it. I will never insist anyone celebrates or mourns in a specified manner. That will be stupid, hence my dismay at some of the comments posted on El-Rufai’s Facebook page. Some of it was too cringing for me to read.
