Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat (popularly known as Femi Hamzat) is the Commissioner for Ministry of Works and Infrastructure in Lagos State, Nigeria. He was appointed as the Commissioner for Ministry of Science & Technology, Lagos State in August 2005. He held that position until June 2011. Thereafter, he was reappointed Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola’s administration on July 4, 2011. (Wikipedia).
In an interview with Channels TV, he was questioned about the state of roads in Lagos. He took time to explain the difficulties his ministry encounters in building roads, having to negotiate his way through a myriad of stakeholders especially federal government officials who have jurisdiction over federal roads in the state. It was fascinating to hear and understand the intrigues he had to go through for roads and bridges to be built. What caught my attention was the spirit of the man, Femi Hamzat, an aspirant in the forth coming gubernatorial election. Commissioner Hamzat, an engineer by profession took it upon himself to invite engineering student across various higher institutions in the state to construction sites to observe and learn from the experts. It was more of practical sessions for these students, an opportunity they would otherwise never have had. Watch the videos below and be inspired by this young Nigerian quietly making a difference in the state. Fascinating interview.
