Nigeria is such a special place, with ingenious talents, uncaring leaders and politicians that flirt with electorates months before election. America has the ‘American Dream’. Nigeria has the ‘impossible is likely’.
Take for instance the case of former governors set to live in abundance years after out of office. Honestly, I have nothing against gratuity. My worry is the rather oversized gratuity..
The Ogun state chairman of the NLC, Akeem Ambali put it this ways: “Professors after 30 years collect N10 million, but they (governors) spend four years and go away with N100 million. They are selfish and greedy. It shows a disconnect between the leaders and the led” reports the Vanguard.

Former Super Eagles star player, Tijani Babangida tips Nigeria to reach quarter-finals of World Cup in Brazil. Babangida expects Nigeria to at least get to the second round of World Cup. ‘I have absolute confidence in the ability of the Super Eagles to qualify to the second round and go as far as the quarter-final of this World Cup,” he told Goal.com.
‘Don’t forget that we are the African champions and we are expected to do well in this competition.’
‘I am also happy that players like the team captain Joseph Yobo and Odemwingie made the list while I also felt disappointed that we couldn’t take the seven players dropped to the World Cup because they are all good players.
‘Right now I believe that we are set for the competition and the Eagles will definitely do well in Brazil.’

Elderson Echiejile
Nigeria duo Elderson Echiejile and Ahmed Musa have injury worries just a week before the start of the World Cup reports BBC.
Elderson Uwa Echiéjilé, simply known as Elderson, has a suspected hamstring strain and will miss the Super Eagles’ final friendly against USA in Florida on Saturday before heading for Brazil. Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi intends to give the Monaco defender as long as possible to prove his fitness. CSKA Moscow winger Musa is also a doubt to face USA with a thigh strain.
Nigeria have until 24 hours before their opening game against Iran on 16 June to replace any injured players.
Better news for Keshi is that defender Juwon Oshaniwa has resumed training after a bout of malaria. Keshi is convinced the African champions will produce a better performance against the USA than they did on Tuesday as they drew 0-0 with Greece.
“I was asking for a lot but we only started training as a team last week. But I needed to push and ask for more. I only saw our style in the last 15 minutes against Greece,” he said.
“I was not happy with the performance against Greece but I hope our play against the USA will be much better.”

World honors D-Day’s fallen, 70 years on reports AP.
Men who stormed Normandy’s shore 70 years ago joined world leaders Friday in paying tribute to the 150,000 Allied troops who risked and lost their lives in the D-Day landings in Nazi-occupied France, in a day of international commemorations of history’s biggest amphibious invasion.
They are honoring the troops and civilians who fell in mighty battles that helped bring Europe peace and unity — just as bloodshed in Ukraine is posing new challenges to European security and threatening a new East-West divide.
As the sun rose Friday over a gusty Omaha Beach, flags flew at half-staff. A U.S. military band played Taps, while D-Day veterans from the 29th Infantry Division and serving soldiers stood at attention at exactly 6:30 a.m., the moment on June 6, 1944, when Allied troops first waded ashore.

Good morning and welcome to our live blog where we endeavour to bring you not only breaking news, but news we feel that matters. Its 6 days to the World cup, and in that spirit, let’s start with the shirt dilemma of the Iranian National team.
Super sport has reported this news.
It is customary for international footballers to swap shirts after matches but Iran’s stars have been instructed not to do so at the 2014 Fifa World Cup finals in Brazil. President of Iran’s Football Federation (FFI), Ali Kafaschian says players of the Team Melli would need “to be economical” with their shirts after matches at the World Cup.
“We are not giving the players a shirt for every game. The players have to be economical with the shirts,” Kafaschian told Fars news agency.
The practice of swapping shirts after major games and events is common practice in football and for Iranian players who rarely encounter European or South American opposition, an opponent’s shirt would have a memorable souvenir to take back from Brazil.
As Iran face Argentina and Lionel Messi in their second group match, it is hard to imagine the players not ignoring the ruling from the FFI president.
It will also be fascinating to see what the Team Melli players will do after facing the Super Eagles who boast of Premier League stars like Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel.
The Iran federation has, meanwhile, been trying to address complaints from players and coaches about the quality of the kit supplied. Reserve keeper Ali-Resa Haghighi has been quoted as saying his tracksuit in size XL shrank to medium after the first wash – but the federation president claims he washed it at the wrong water temperature.
