emenike_celebratesEMENIKE: ‘I AM NO MESSIAH’ reports African football.

Emmanuel Emenike dismissed suggestions that the Nigerian fans will be relying on him to guide the Super Eagles past the group stages. The Fenerbahce striker has cooled expectations and admits only a team effort will see them escape their group.

The African Cup of Nations holders kick-off their 2014 World Cup campaign against Iran in Curitiba on June 16.

“No, that is wrong. I appreciate the fans for their love. I am not the Messiah in Eagles, I am here to contribute my quota to the team,” the 27-year-old told AfricanFootball.com

“If I have an opportunity to score, I will, and if it is any of my teammates, I will celebrate because what matters is the result and not goal scorers. So, I need them and they need me to make the team great. I will not bow to any opponent until the final whistle,” Emenike concluded. Nigeria will look to become the first team from the African continent to reach the semifinals at the World Cup.

The Super Eagles were drawn in Group F alongside Argentina, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iran.

Good morning and welcome. Yes! World Cup is a mere 24 hours away. Can’t wait.

Nigeria, the African champions touched down for the World Cup as scheduled in Sao Paulo on Tuesday night from their pre-tournament camp in the United States. Wow! That’s a mean feat bearing in mind the notoriety of NFF’s disorganisation skills. A year ago, Nigeria arrived three days late for the Confederations Cup in Brazil. Yes, 3 days. As expected, they did not give a good account of themselves, speak less of a continent. They were in disarray after a player strike over bonuses caused delays and threatened to throw the World Cup warm-up tournament into chaos.

Late Tuesday, the Nigerians were transferring through Brazil’s huge commercial hub to their World Cup base in the city of Campinas, around 100km north of Sao Paulo. The 2013 African Cup of Nations winners will play Iran in their opening game in Group F in Curitiba on Monday. World cup

I don’t want to imagine how Brazilians must be feeling right now. The football crazy nation is expectant. They simply expect to win. Period. Brazil meets a no push over Croatia is the tournament’s curtain raiser.
